The arrest was made on Monday, Aug. 26 just before 3 p.m., when a man was seen snorting a white powdered substance while sitting in the driver's seat of a car in the Putnam County town of Southeast, the Putnam County Sheriff's Office said on Monday, Sept. 30.
According to the Sheriff's Office, the man's vehicle was found to have a Virginia license plate that expired in 2016. A search of his car undertaken by members of the Sheriff's Office's Narcotics Enforcement Unit then resulted in authorities finding a quantity of cocaine and buprenorphine, police said.
The suspect, identified as New Haven County resident Ahmed Haider of East Haven, was arrested and taken to the Putnam County Correctional Facility, where he was charged with two counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. He was then released with an appearance ticket pending a future court date.
